White teeth tips and whitening veneers advice

It’s not just film and television stars that need to radiate a winning smile to get ahead in their careers. If you want to be a shop assistant in a classy store, part of a good quality airline cabin crew, a financial adviser or basically anyone who deals with the public then you will find that having a clean, white smile wins people over and helps your career move ahead.

First things first then, if you still retain a brilliant smile then you are to be congratulated. Many modern day products and habits are very damaging to our teeth and avoiding causing permanent damage to the enamel is something which is becoming ever more difficult. If your smile has been damaged through time and bad habits don’t worry, we’ll talk about helping you with whitening veneers later on, but first I want to cover a few tips in order to help people retain their smile.

  1. Avoid cigarettes. Apart from other health problems, which no one can claim not be aware of in this day and age, these are terrible for your teeth, leading inextricably to a yellowing and subsequent aging effect.
  2. Go easy on the red wine. Now this one is more of a good news / bad news type issue. We know that red wine helps your heart but it doesn’t do much for the whiteness of your teeth. Moderation is the key word here. One glass an evening after a meal will help your heart and won’t overly affect your smile. One bottle a day won’t help your heart, your teeth, your head or your life in general.
  3. Milky coffee instead of black. Too many of cups of strong, black coffee and you’ll be heading straight to that whitening veneers section I promised earlier. If you love coffee try it with milk instead of water.
  4. Not too much cherry pie, fizzy drinks, sports energy drinks, citrus drinks or acidy fruits. I hate to put such good things in the “be careful with” list, but taking excessive amounts of any of these can hurt the enamel in your teeth. Try and mix your drinks with the odd glass of water, you might even get to its refreshing, cleansing taste.

Alright, so if you have got to that stage where you teeth aren’t as white or as straight or as perfect as you like what can you do to sort them out? Well, quite a lot actually. One of the best treatments around these is the whitening veneers option. Your dentist simply makes an ultra thin porcelain veneer which goes over your teeth and gives them a perfectly white and even look. These whitening veneers are becoming more popular all the time, due to the ease of fitting and the wonderfully natural effect they give.

If you want a less expensive, less durable option then you could choose plastic veneers, which are sometimes known as composite or direct whitening veneers. However, if a job is worth doing it is worth doing well, and getting a quality porcelain veneer means that you can smile away for up to 15 years without worrying about having to get it replaced.
